My micro-wedding cakes are intended to cater to smaller size weddings. Whether you are looking for a trio of single tier cakes to display, a single tier cutting cake, or two tier cake, I’ve got you covered!
My goal is to create a memorable cake for your event that highlights quality ingredients and flavors, paired with beautiful design. The information below applies to events and celebrations of all kinds (weddings, birthdays, engagements, showers etc) - pricing is quoted based on the scope of the project and does not differ based on the type of event you are celebrating.
While fresh flowers from your florist can be used as decorations for your cake, keep in mind that they can contain pesticides, herbicides, dirt, bacteria, and sometimes even natural toxins (e.g. hydrangeas, anemones, hellebores, and many other flowers that are inherently poisonous to humans — whether they’re grown organically or not). Despite their prevalence as cake adornments, fresh flowers are not food safe! Sculpted clay flowers are a great non toxic option to real flowers and have been used to adorn cakes for years. They are then inserted into the cake with food safe methods (floral picks, straws, toothpicks)
Your cake will be dressed with flowers hand crafted from air dry clay, petal by petal, and dusted with rich color. As a non-fragile alternative to sugar flowers, this clay is non-toxic and the flowers can be kept as a memento after your special occasion.
Serving quantity is approximate and is based on typical wedding sized slices. The amount of servings that each cake provides is ultimately determined by how you or your caterer cuts the cake. Picking your cake size first helps determine what type of design composition would fit best and give a reasonable idea of the budget you should be planning for. Below is just a sampling of common sizes and tier combinations. Pricing varies greatly based on the chosen design and techniques utilized. Once I have a better understanding of what styles you're attracted to, I can provide a more accurate quote.
Backstage Servings: (often referred to as a “kitchen” cake)
If your event requires more than 60 servings or you simply prefer the look of a more petite cake on display, I offer the option of backstage servings. These are undecorated, 8” round layer cakes that are stored with catering and used to supplement the slices of the tiered, display cake. Since these cakes have no decor, they are priced around $5/serving. I can provide guidance on what combination and quantity of display cake + backstage cake would be needed to equal the total amount of servings needed.
Note: I do have storage limits as a home baker and am only able to take on 2 additional kitchen cakes to supplement a tiered cake order. For additional servings, I do offer floral cupcakes that can be added to your order.
CAKE PRICING (*NO ADDED DECOR)
If you’re interested in adding a floral element to your cake, I provide two different options. (I do not provide clients fresh flowers to accent their cake). If your preference is a buttercream floral design, I do offer piped buttercream flowers making the entire cake completely edible. These floral arrangements look beautiful and hold up well during the summer months provided that the cake stay away from a heat source, direct sunlight, bright window, etc. and stay refrigerated appropriately.
Alternately, I can provide the service of creating a custom arrangement of hand crafted air drying clay flowers to add to your cake. This is great option if you’re hoping for a type or color of flower that does not occur in nature or cannot be sourced for your wedding day. However, please be aware that air drying clay flowers are not meant for consumption as they are inedible. Creating hand crafted flowers is an extremely arduous and time consuming process that takes a great bit of skill, patience and many professional tools. Adding air drying clay flowers to your cake is an investment in the design and will increase your quote significantly. However, if the flowers are carefully removed from your cake, they can be saved and displayed for years to come!
When considering your flavors, there are two elements to familiarize yourself with: your cake flavor and your filling flavor.
FILLING: Your cake can will be filled and frosted with Swiss meringue buttercream + the addition of pastry fillings and select filling combinations.
EXTERIOR BUTTERCREAM: Your exterior buttercream flavor will be vanilla, however, if you love the look of a white cake but want a chocolate filling, I’d use white vanilla on the exterior and chocolate buttercream for the filling.
