Cutting cake and caring for cake transportation from Lisa’s Bouqcakes in Dublin Ca bakery

Please take time to read suggested cake care instructions

  • If storing the cake before your event, be sure to keep it in the refrigerator (not freezer).

  • When transporting your cake, it should be placed on the floor as flat as possible (not at a slant, not on the seat) or in your trunk where there is limited movement or sliding around. Car should be kept as cold as possible during transportation. I do not recommend transporting a cake for longer than 2 hours, as the integrity of the cake changes as it comes to room temperature and stopping or turning could result in the cake leaning into the box. Driver should drive slowly and take turns very carefully. Lisa’s Bouqcakes cannot be held liable for any damages to the cake during transportation of the cake by the client.

  • At the location of your event, the cake should not be placed anywhere in direct sunlight or heat (ie. by a bright window, by a fireplace, outside in sunlight) If your event is being held outside, you MUST provide shade for the cake, and refrigeration prior to event start is HIGHLY recommended!

  • Be sure to test a table or cake stand's ability to bear weight before placing the cake on it! Make sure your table is not wobbly (a common problem). Rotating the table can sometimes help the legs get a more even stance, or just moving to a floor space that's more even. This should be done before the cake is placed on table.

  • Cake should not be placed in areas of high traffic, in front of a stereo with strong vibrations, or other types of movement that could cause damage to the cake. When cutting tiered or tall cakes, be aware that there are 5-7 structural wooden dowels in each tier of the cake, found in the center as well as inserted in a circle around the edge of each tier. These will need to be removed as the cake is being sliced for service.

Thank you & Enjoy Your Cake!

Cake serving guide

Additional Information

To get the most servings from your celebration cake, it is suggested that you make the cuts as shown in the diagram above as opposed to wedge slices.

For a party size cut, the suggested serving size is: 1"W x 2"L x tier height. For a wedding, the suggested serving size is 1"W x 1”L x tier height.

Above guide represents party size cuts.

Double barrel or tall cake cutting guide

6” Tall, 8” Tall, and Tiered Cakes

”Tall” Cake Cutting Instructions

My 6" tall party cake and some of my 2 tier cakes are double barrel   A double-barrel cake is generally a two-tiered cake with BOTH tiers being the same width as opposed to the bottom tier being wider than the top tier (ex: a 6-inch cake that sits on an 8-inch cake)

There is a center wooden dowel that runs from the top of the cake to the base it sits on. The bottom half of the cake has 4 to 6 wooden dowels that support the top portion of the cake. All these dowels will need to be removed as you slice the cake.

Cutting Instructions-

  1. Allow chilled cake to come to room temperature for 1-2 hours prior to serving depending on the time of the year.
  2. Cut and serve the top cake, remove the support board and cut and serve the bottom.
  3. Discard support dowels
