So What’s all the Rage with the Double Barrel Cake?

Double Barrel Cakes have become very trendy. They give you an opportunity to extend your design and cake servings beyond a traditional  “taller“ cake height. They are linear and sometimes death defying, but beautiful and elegant at the same time. So what exactly is a double barrel celebration cake?

There can be some confusion between double barrel and tall or extended height cakes. Tall cakes have their height extended by adding one more layer, so instead of a three-layer cake, you now have a four-layer cake. A double barrel cake is essentially two or three cakes stacked one on top of the other making it 8 to 10 inches tall. Basically, a tall cake is an extended height cake, while a double barrel is an extended tier cake. 

So why would you want to order a double barrel cake for your special event or birthday celebration? Simply put, it looks sleek and elegant and not a lot of bakeries actually make them. It really would be something quite special and unique for you and your guests to enjoy. Wouldn’t you agree that taller cakes just look so pretty? Now you might be asking yourself how to actually cut through this masterpiece. Well, you cut it just like you would any other stacked cake. You cut and serve the top cake right to the cake board in the middle of this skyscraper, and then remove the cake board below that top layer to then cut and serve the bottom cake. Pretty simple, right?
